My aim as the Language teacher is to ignite the same passion I have for the French language into the children at our services whilst ensuring that this is undertaken in a nurturing and secure environment so that the children may build on their self-esteem and allow for growth linguistically, physically and emotionally. I believe that learning a second language benefits childrenâs creative and cognitive development and leaves a lasting impression on children as it stimulates childrenâs appreciation, empathy and knowledge for the culturally diverse world we live in.
However, you may ask, âWhy French?â or âPourquoi le Français?â. The French language is of excellence, itâs a diverse language, as it is the only language other than English that is spoken on five continents. French is also a âRomanceâ language that is it originates from Latin, hence itâs advantageous as it assists with the learning of other âRomanceâ languages, including English, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. Therefore, French is undeniably an ideal language for children to learn in Early Childhood.
In our classes I endeavour to create a calm and nurturing learning environment centred around bilingualism by utilising actions, motions, objects of familiarity, visual displays, facial expressions and modelling to enhance my verbal cues.
During this second term we are focusing on the theme âNurturing our Growthâ. I will provide the children with an increased understanding of healthy practices to ensure we look after both our physical and emotional wellbeing. The areas of focus this term include: learning about our body parts, demonstrating good hygiene, healthy food habits, healthy ways of showing our emotions and the importance of moving our bodies. Within these areas of focus I will extend the childrenâs vocabulary in French, in particular with the goal to memorise phrases and learn numbers through repetition, as well as extending the childrenâs confidence in their own voice.
In addition, I look forward to encouraging the children to feel comfortable and secure enough to recognise and share emotions and check in with their friends, especially as we begin our class with a âHelloâ song, that opens up communication about our feelings.
