Meet Lauren our 2IC from Thumbelina
I joined Active Kids Group in March, 2019 and I have been working at Thumbelina ever since. This is my first position in childcare since completing my studies.
I love that Thumbelina is a small centre and that we have great relationships with our families, children and one another as a team. Being small allows us to get to know each other on a personal level.
I hold a National Certificate of Early Education and Childcare and Childcare and a Higher National Certificate of Early Education and Childcare back home in Scotland. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education here in Australia.
Before childcare, I worked in hospitality for the Sydney Collective.
I’m extremely proud of my achievements at Thumbelina, first being appointed 2IC as well as Room Leader within my room. I’ve received certificates in several professional development courses such as Understanding Autism, Safe Sleep by Red Nose Foundation, and Practical Approaches to Programming Parts 1 and 2.
In my spare time, I love to explore different parts of Sydney, go on coastal walks and read. I enjoy trying new restaurants and foods and socialising with my friends as well as outdoor activities like camping!
My personal mission at work is for the children to be happy, have fun and feel loved and cared for whilst at Thumbelina.
I was inspired to be an educator because I love children and making them happy! I love providing fun, educational activities for the children and watching them grow and develop their own little personalities.
My favourite childhood memories is when my brother, cousins and I would go swimming in summer time in Scotland. We would go down to the pier in the village and jump in! We would also go crab fishing using bacon for bait.
