Meet Leeanne

Meet Leeanne our centre coordinator from Bondi

I have been working in the Early Childhood profession for 22 years. I started my journey as a nursery room assistant whilst studying my Diploma in Children’s services.  During this time, my career provided me with the opportunity to take on the lead educator role in the nursery and the role of second in charge. This led me to the managerial side of Early Childhood which had me progress into a Coordinator role with Active Kid Group where I have been working for the past 9 years.

As a coordinator for Active Kids Group, I have had the opportunity to work at a variety of our sister services which has given me the opportunity to work across all age groups, work in different child care settings and engage with a diverse range of educators, families and children.

I currently hold a Degree in Early Childhood Education and the advanced diploma in Frontline Management in the Community Sector. I have also completed training in child protection, first aid, behaviour management, nutrition and food safety.

My passion to work with children came from when I used to help my mum babysit for other families and when my parents volunteered to care for children with additional needs. I continued to babysit and nanny for families, before moving to Canberra to study my diploma.

What I love about working in Active Kids Group is the feeling of belonging and being a part of a strong and supportive family.  Active Kids Group has given me so many opportunities to further my knowledge and skills. This continued support enables me to achieve my role as Coordinator, while giving me the opportunities to take on new roles in the organisation.

My personal mission is to provide a home away from home for the children and families who attend my service.  Seeing the families’ reactions and the children advancing into their next stage of development is what inspired me to become an educator and furthermore assist other educators to do the same.

My favourite pastime is to listen to music, catching up with friends, watching movies, shopping, travelling and spending time with my family.

If I had to choose one of my favourite childhood memories it would be the spontaneous road trips that I would take with my mum and dad.  Destination unknown, but we would take a picnic lunch, find a beautiful spot in country Victoria, have lunch and then drive back to the hustle and bustle of the city.  It is still one of my favourite things to do now, unplanned road trips with great friends.
