Active Kids City centres are located in the heart of the Sydney CBD and can be accessed via World Square and World Tower. Our centre has been operating for 15 years and is driven by a strong, dedicated team of long serving educators. Our centre coordinator, Evelyn Frawley, has worked with Active Kids World Square since February 2011. Each member of staff is committed to providing the highest level of Early Childhood Education. Our dedicated and passionate educators strive to assist each individual child to develop holistically in an inviting, caring and structured environment. Through effective and strong partnerships with families we provide a curriculum based on the children’s interest and love of learning.
Active Kids World Square and World Tower have recently been rated “Exceeding” National Quality Standards by the Australian Children’s Education & Care Quality Authority (ACECQA).
We provide breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and cater for all dietary requirements.
Active Kids City provides a range of extra-curricular activities throughout the year. Our Learn and Grow team consist of French classes, Drama and Dance and Fitness classes. We also implement ELLA – Early Learning Languages Australia – ELLA is a fun, digital, play-based language learning program for children in preschool. It helps children to become more comfortable with different languages early in life so that they can stay engaged with learning languages in later years. This year the preschool children are focusing on Indonesian.
We also use the parent communication app Kindyhub which enhances communication between educators and parents. Kindyhub enables educators to share information securely with parents about upcoming events, the progress of their child’s achievements and allows parents to share family input stories. Each family is provided with a secure login to access the app from their computer, mobile or tablet.
We engage with our local community and encourage visits from the Navy, Police, Fire and Rescue along with dentists, doctors and members of the aboriginal community. We invite a number of external incursions to come and visit our service including Reptile shows, Braveheart’s and Bandage Bear. We also bring the children on excursions to events such as NAIDOC in the Park, Lunar New Year in World Square and also to Castlereagh Fire Station where the children get a chance to meet members of the CBD community first hand.
We also celebrate a variety of different events throughout the year which reflect all our World Square families’ backgrounds and the surrounding community.
AKG supports the continuity of professional development and growth of our educators through our very own AKG Professional Development Program with regular workshops and training which ensures our educators continue to strengthen their practices. This Professional Development assists in building our educator’s current skills and knowledge which in turn leads to ensuring the children attending our centre all achieve success.
Active Kids City consists of a purpose-built centre complete with natural environments, a museum, an art and craft room as well as a community library. Each room is warm, inviting, bright and structured to assist each individual child to learn, investigate, discover and explore. We have separate modern cot rooms for our under two’s and toilet training facilities for our over two’s. Our extended family consists of fish and other sea creatures including yabbies.
Our large outdoor area features a spectacular natural garden where we also care for our rabbits Hip and Hop as well as budgies, rainbow lorikeets and parrots.
Our rooms consist of:
0 to 2 years – Nursery Room
18 months to 2.5 years – Junior Toddler Room
2.5 to 3 years – Senior Toddler Room
3 to 4 years – Junior Preschool Room
4 to 5 years – Senior Preschool Room
We provide up to three days of orientation designed to build the relationship between the educators, the family and the child. This gives the families and educators a chance to meet, the child a chance to become familiar with the new environment and their educators and also allows the educators a chance to get the know the child and their interests and to set achievable goals over the coming months.
Centrally located in the heart of the CBD, our centre is easily accessible from both Museum and Town Hall Train Stations, bus stops on Castlereagh and Elizabeth Street as well as from the Light Rail. These are all within a five minute walk. We are also located close to China Town and Darling Harbour.
For convenience, the centre provides an onsite pram bay as well as a 15 minute short-stay drop off and pickup area.
