3 Day Guarantee Child Care Subsidy: What Families Need to Know in 2026

From 5 January 2026, the Australian Child Care Subsidy (CCS) introduced the 3 Day Guarantee, ensuring all eligible families can access at least 72 hours (3 days) of subsidised childcare per fortnight for each child.

What Is The 3 Day Guarantee?

The 3 Day Guarantee gives all eligible families a minimum of 72 subsidised hours per fortnight, regardless of work, study, or training hours.

Previously, subsidy hours were based on an “activity test,” but now the minimum is automatic, making early education more accessible and predictable.

How Many Hours Does the CCS Cover?
• Minimum: 72 hours per fortnight
• Maximum: Up to 100 hours for families meeting additional criteria
• Changes are automatic if you already receive CCS

Note: Families still pay a gap fee — the difference between the subsidy and daily fee.
Does It Replace the Activity Test?

Yes, for the minimum 72 hours.
• Families no longer need to meet activity requirements to access the guaranteed hours.
• Higher activity levels may still qualify for up to 100 subsidised hours.

Who Is Eligible?

Families must:
• Meet general CCS eligibility
• Have their child enrolled at an approved service
• Lodge a CCS claim through Services Australia

Already receiving CCS? No need to reapply — minimum hours apply automatically.
